AKESO Medical Holding opened a state-of-the-art Day Care Centre in the morning. The gentle minimally invasive procedures, after which patients go home within 24 hours, will be performed by doctors at the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital and Hořovice Hospital. Consultations on health problems will be provided by the Diagnostic Centre in Nové Butovice in Prague.

"We will perform up to six thousand procedures this year. In the next few years, we are planning twelve to fifteen thousand," said Sotirios Zavalianis, owner of AKESO Holding.

In the one-day care, the patient comes in the morning for a pre-operative examination, then undergoes a modern and gentle minimally invasive procedure and after a short bed rest goes home within 24 hours or is transferred to rehabilitation or another department.

"Mini-invasive procedures are very gentle on the operated area. This means less pain, shorter healing time, lower risk of complications and a faster return to normal life," explains Petr Zeithaml, head of the surgical department.

The Beroun and Hořovice doctors have so far managed 80,000 procedures - mainly arthroscopic and gynaecological ones - as part of their one-day care.

The Day Care Centre opened today is unique in its wide range of specialties, from arthroscopy to surgery, coloproctology, gynaecology and urology to plastic surgery. In addition, it is intertwined with rehabilitation and other specialist departments.

Its flagship is the Arthroscopy Centre in Beroun. It provides a full spectrum of arthroscopic procedures - from diagnostic and preventive procedures for early arthrosis prevention to complex reconstructive procedures.

"We operate on more than five thousand patients a year," said Zdeněk Kopečný, the head doctor of the Arthroscopy Centre, who has performed more than 50 thousand operations with his team since 2008.

Last year, AKESO Holding invested CZK 350 million in the expansion of the Beroun Arthroscopy Centre. Instead of the original two operating theatres, doctors now have four. The sterilisation department has also been enlarged and new beds have been added.

Initially, Zdeněk Kopečný' s team operated on 20 to 30 patients a day, who waited on average three to five weeks for a procedure to be performed. Now they operate on up to a quarter more patients. Waiting times have been cut by up to half. "We are trying to make the best use of the state-of-the-art equipment at our disposal. That's why we run surgery schedules from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.," Kopecny says.

The Arthroscopy Centre has a total of 75 beds in two buildings. All rooms are equipped with modern reclining beds, sanitary facilities, TV and free internet access. Patients also spend time here before the procedure. Afterwards, they go home within 24 hours or are transferred to rehabilitation or other specialist centres.

This June, the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital also opened a new psychiatric clinic at a cost of CZK 1.2 billion. For another more than two billion, the hospital in Horovice is now building a modern pavilion with operating theatres, which can be converted into a pandemic hospital if necessary.

The AKESO holding also includes the radiology and oncology centre Multiscan Pardubice and the Diagnostic Centre in Nové Butovice, Prague.
